Aims & Objectives

Our Charitable Aims & Objectives are:

1. To establish the Drake Foundation

 Full time executive team now in place – fully funded by Royal Mail. Investment worth £250k over three years.

 Permanent office – based at and fully funded by Tamar Science Park, Plymouth. Investment worth £50k over three years.

 Set up costs fully funded by South West Water.

 Branding, website and PR support provided by Formedia.




2. To work in partnership with the Devon Community Foundation on the Grassroots programme.

 Cash Donations to the Plymouth Grassroots fund will be 100% matched by the government. Gift aid also matched. A donation of £100 with gift aid is worth £256 to the fund. 

 Matched Funding Targets - £250,000 in donations to be raised by the end of March 2011. £50,000 target for March 2009 achieved.

 The Drake Foundation & Devon Community Foundation will manage the allocation of Grassroots Grants for the Plymouth Area – grants worth £347,000 over 3 years. £100,000 in grants already allocated to worthy causes in our community. 



3. To build a £5m endowment fund for the Plymouth city region

 A fund built from donations. Interest used to provide grants. 

 Starting with the Grassroots Challenge – maximise the money that we can obtain through government matched funding.

 Building on the Grassroots challenge – continue to build the Plymouth fund to achieve the £5m target.

 Providing a permanent source of funds to support local charities and local community groups – now and in the future.

 Recruit 10,000 Drake Foundation members from the Plymouth city region.


4. To manage effective grant giving programmes on behalf of donors

 Working in partnership with community foundations, local charities and community representatives.

 Real grassroots support – helping unsung heroes and smaller, less established voluntary and community groups.

 Ensuring the money raised from the endowment is allocated in the best way, providing effective and long lasting support to our community.
